These pieces grew out of the need for some organizations to have music for pre-performance, intermission, and/or post-performance ambiences.

Although designed as a kind of "furniture music" (Satie) or "table music" (Telemann and others) or even "elevator music", it is hoped they can also satisfy a need for somewhat relaxing background music in daily life.

By design, not much happens overall but any random 30-second dip into the sound might be rewarding. Just the thing for greeting friends, discussing the performance so far, setting the stage for the next part.

At home, studying, cooking, or even sleeping might be appropriate activities for these five different styles of music. They are a little more active than most drone music in their details but overall quite similar to that minimal aesthetic.

I don’t think there’s anything more captivating than when synths and strings fuse together into one exceptional piece of music (except maybe a sparse trumpet echoing in the background occasionally playing a few notes, but then that would be my bliss).
